Rainy Days and Hair: Not a Match Made in Heaven
Thu, Oct 13, 2011By Andrea Claire for Yahoo! Southeast Asia
Frizzy? Flat? Frizzy and flat? With humidity in the air it’s easy to feel like giving up and tying your hair into a ponytail so it’s one less thing to think about. Hair companies have developed anti-humidity products to help combat Mother Nature’s elements to get us out of these hairy situations.
NOTE: Anti-humidity does not mean straight hair. You have options: bouncing and behaving curls or straight and sassy lustrous locks!
Frizz-Fighting Shampoo and Conditioners
Specially formulated to keep hair smooth and silky all day long. With a wide-tooth comb, comb conditioner through prior to rinsing. This will distribute the product more evenly therefore getting better anti-frizz results. Try Organix Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner.
Anti-Frizz Straightening Creams
Straightening creams are best for wavy/curly hair. On towel-dried hair, apply product from mid-length to ends. Then with whatever left on your hands, smooth over your roots. Blow-dry with a paddle brush. Try Ouidad Climate Control Heat & Humidity Gel or KMS Flat Out Straightening Cream.
TIP: Use your blow-dryer with the nozzle on. Aim it down your hair shaft, which helps to smooth flyaway hairs. It is best to blow-dry using a ceramic brush. Finish off with a no-heat blast as the cool air will help ‘set’ your style to last all day.
Anti-Humidity Pomades
Use a pomade – instead of hair gel – once you are done with your blow-dry. The pomade will not dry out hair like gel and will keep hair hydrated. Smooth pomade with the palm of your hands going downwards the hair shaft. Try Aveda Anti-Humectant Pomade.
Anti-Humidity Sprays
Spraying anti-humidity sprays over your completed hairstyle is just added protection from the humidity in the air. These sprays are great to use over freshly tonged hair prior to fixing into your style, giving hair added hold. Try KMS Flat Out Anti-humidity Spray.
TIP: If you are curling your hair do not brush through the curls until the hair has cooled. Manipulating warm hair will change the shape, resulting in dropping the curl.
Dry Shampoos
Dry shampoos are amazing for humidity and hair. If your hair tends to flatten out throughout the day carry a dry shampoo in your bag and spray your roots and brush – instant root-lift! Dry shampoo is also a great volumiser for fine hair. Try Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo.
Little Tricks From My Stylist Bag
I always use ceramic tools and ceramic brushes. Ceramic tools use moist heat resulting in less frizzy hair as the hair does not get dried out or damaged. Plus, your end result is a beautiful sheen – bonus! If you are using the flat iron but want to keep lift to the hair, pop in some large Velcro rollers while the hair is still warm. Once the hair cools, remove the rollers. You will be amazed at the results!
